The latest celebrity endorsed movement comes courtesy of morning show host and fitness fanatic, Kelly Ripa. She claims the alkaline diet changed her life, explaining that the cleanse cured her from chronic muscular pain and other ailments. After Kelly’s public declaration of love for the eating regimen, a handful of other famous faces stood up and expressed their shared their alkaline affinity. Elle Macpherson, Victoria Beckham and even Gwyneth herself, credit the diet for changing their lives, their health and their physiques. But, before we all run out to buy alkaline diet how-to’s and cook books, let’s unpack exactly what it is and how it works!
First and foremost the alkaline diet deals with regulating your body’s pH balance. According to experts – controlling the body’s acidity (also known as alkalinity) with diet helps reduce internal inflammation. According to the theory, eating too many acidic foods promotes acid build up, which can cause weight gain, lethargy, disease and many other unwanted health issues.
