Now with the warmer weather approaching, it's a good idea to take a look at your skin care, food, and supplements to potentially change them up a little for more vibrant looking skin.

Having a winter and summer skin care routine is super important because both seasons can cause the skin to react differently. But do you know what’s even more important? The food and supplements we take for that natural glow! 

If you’re like me and eat way more fresh produce in the summer months, you may actually be able to skip your multivitamin for the next few weeks! With fresh, locally grown produce being at best in the summertime, we are guaranteed more nutrient rich vegetables and fruits. 

Here are my top 5 foods and supplements to add into your routine for a natural glow!

1. Lemons

Lemons are one of the simplest fruits we can add into the diet. Simply squeeze some into your water (best with room temperature water) or on your salads. Lemons are a great source of antioxidants and also help to alkalize our body. Although they are acidic by nature, in the body they actually hold a very alkalizing purpose. I have found great results by adding 1/2 squeezed lemon throughout the day!

2. Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc and fibre, both of which are needed in order to help detoxify the body and support digestion. Zinc is super well known for regulating hormones. If you’re on any synthetic hormone prescription, I highly suggest adding some pumpkin seeds into your diet, and maybe even a zinc supplement. Fibre helps the body eliminate waste and toxins, which helps to clear our skin.

3. Omega 3

Have you heard of Aqua Omega? This is my favourite omega 3 company out on the market, today. Their omega 3s are extremely high quality, carefully sourced and IFOS certified. Omega 3s can reduce inflammation in the body and bring moisture into the skin. We often think that hydration means drinking water, but when it comes to the skin, it’s actually more important to ensure you are getting in enough omega 3s! You only need 1 teaspoon per day to get the full serving. Otherwise, you can try sardines, anchovies or smaller fish for your omega 3 intake!

4. Dandelion Leaf Tea

Dandelion leaf tea is definitely a great add on for glowing skin. Dandelion is a bitter herb that helps to filter and detox the liver, gallbladder and overall digestion. This powerful herb is a must for post dinner relaxation and rejuvenation. I love having one cup of dandelion tea each night. It’s caffeine free and can be especially beneficial for the skin! I love the brand Traditional Medicinals and you can even get fresh dandelion leaves at the grocery store! Just make sure they are organic.

5. Chamomile Tea

Chamomile is also known to be really calming for our skin. Many people will drink chamomile tea first thing in the morning to bring down inflammation and water retention. I know for myself, chamomile has really helped my skin calm down during flare ups. It’s a perfect herb to add into your tea drawer. Again, I love Traditional Medicinals for chamomile tea, as well!
