Losing bone density? Suffering from osteoporosis?

Are you Worried About Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is a term that literally means “porous bones”. It’s a loss of bone minerals, density, and bone strength, and is a common problem of menopausal and postmenopausal women that is difficult to diagnose. It is estimated that over two million women in Canada and eight million women in the United States have osteoporosis. For those over the age of 50, one in two women will suffer from osteoporosis, and it is likely that as many as 70% to 90% of bone fractures in people older than 60 are due to osteoporosis.

Bone Metabolism

Bone remodeling occurs constantly throughout our life. This process, known as bone metabolism, allows our bones to adapt, maintain its integrity and repair damage, involving the destruction of old bones and the creation of new ones. Bone metabolism is due to two cells: osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Osteoclasts break down bone tissue and handle bone resorption, while osteoblasts are involved in bone formation. Once we reach our mid twenties, we reach our peak bone mass. Following this period is when we begin to continuously lose bone mass, as bone resorption becomes more prominent than bone formation. We lose approximately .5% of bone mass per year, with an increasing rate in women after menopause as estrogen inhibits bone resorption.

Current Solutions = Limited Success and Many Concerns

Many people eat a diet that is much higher in phosphorus than in calcium, which can lead to improper bone metabolism and loss of bone calcium. Since we are unable to produce our own calcium, most will then turn to calcium supplementation, which has limited success in absorption. In fact, because of the many complex factors affecting calcium absorption, anywhere from 30% - 80% may end up being excreted. Calcium absorption also becomes less efficient as we age, and an adult might use only 30% - 50% of dietary calcium in his or her body.

A New Natural Solution

BoneMD® is a convenient, natural and more effective solution than calcium supplementation that can be used as a preventative or treatment to increase bone mineral density and suppress bone loss. It achieves this by stimulating osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) and suppressing resorption (bone loss), while helping calcium from our diet adhere to the bone. BoneMD® contains MBP, a component of whey that has components promoting bone formation and inhibiting bone resorption. Only a small fraction of MBP is found in the overall protein content of milk, so it is much more effective to supplement with BoneMD® as opposed to consuming dairy products in attempt to ingest an effective dose.

BoneMD increased bone mineral density

BoneMD® has been proven in multiple positive clinical studies showing increased bone mineral density without the supplementation of calcium. One double-blind study revealed that BoneMD® increased bone mineral density by 3% in women’s’ radial bones in 6 months of use, while women not taking BoneMD® lost 1.3%.

BoneMD® can assist in maximizing peak bone density for those between the ages of 20 – 40 who are building or maintaining bone density. For those over 40 years of age, BoneMD® can help reverse the body’s natural decline of bone density.
