Should I Consider a Parasite Cleanse?
Cooler weather is coming and fall is quickly approaching, many of us may now want to start thinking about the effective ways to boost the immune system.
With the pandemic still being at risk, our immune health is extremely important right now. Many of us are now starting to use vitamin C, probiotics and echinacea to support the immune system, and while this is all very effective, it may not be enough for all of us. If you are someone who gets sick super often, it may be a good idea to look into some of the possible underlying reasons as to why this is happening - one of those may fall under a parasite infection.
I know you may be thinking: “Well, I haven’t traveled since last year, so how could this be possible”, and I can tell you that traveling is only one of the multiple ways you can get a parasite. Some of the causes include: food poisoning, eating sushi, eating uncooked meat, eating unwashed lettuce, sleeping with your pets and even sitting on public bathrooms. I know it may seem like a squeamish topic, but I also believe that it is vital for us to talk about this more often. Over 65% of us deal with this issue on a day to day basis and may not even realize it because we have become so used to feeling fatigued and unwell.
Some of the most common symptoms when it comes to a parasite infection are: skin rashes, bloating + gas being out of control, joint pain, fatigue, needing to nap at 3 pm every day, trouble sleeping, having trouble losing or gaining weight (especially in the abdominal section), gurgling in the stomach and feeling hungry 24/7. Although these symptoms do reflect a parasitic infection, keep in mind that there could be something else going on so please check in with your practitioner to be sure.
If you resonate with at least two of these symptoms, then keep reading:
Parasite cleansing is so crucial because if we do not solve the issue when it first comes to surface, it can actually get a lot worse overtime. Parasites grow and hatch during the full moon, so if you’ve been told you have a parasite, I highly suggest getting it under control sooner rather than later. When doing the cleanse holistically, you want to consider and prepare for making a change in diet as it may be pretty dramatic for some of us. A few things you’ll want to take out of the diet are: gluten, dairy, grains, and sugars. Parasites feed off of acidic foods, so it is in our best interest to take these out and replace them with rich alkaline foods like bitter vegetables (beets, dandelion, radichio, kale, spinach), nuts and seeds, high quality protein and healthy carbohydrates like sweet potatoes and squash. Pumpkin seeds and papaya seeds are also key when it comes to the cleanse as they aid in killing parasite eggs— I would suggest having these daily, even if you are not cleansing!
Keep in mind that parasites can also thrive in a stressful environment so it’s important for us to cleanse at a time where stress levels are low. Choose to cleanse at a time that works best for you so you know you can stay committed and focused throughout the next 6 to 8 weeks. Because of this, I also really suggest upping your self care game to ensure stress is at an all time low.
