The Top 5 Foods for a Healthy Complexion

That means the more toxic food you put into our body, the harder it has to work and the more it will show through your skin. While what you put on your skin of course has a huge impact on our complexion, what you put in your body is just as important. What I’m trying to tell you is, the saying is true - you really are what you eat.

In order to achieve your healthiest complexion, it’s important to focus on clean foods that are full of antioxidants, inflammation fighters, and healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. That means staying away from sugars and alcohols as much as possible! Below I list some foods that you can easily incorporate into your daily routine to improve the look and feel of your skin so you can stay glow-y all winter long.

I’ve talked about this powerful blue-green algae on the Vitarock blog before because it really is that good! Spirulina has an abundance of vitamins and minerals, including a rich source of antioxidant beta carotene, B vitamins, iron, calcium and essential fatty acids. It actually has one of the rarest forms of essential fatty acids, gamma linoleic acid (GLA), which is known for its anti inflammatory benefits that your skin will love! Between these benefits, along with being rich in complete protein, spirulina is known to help clear up skin. I love pumpkin seeds for strengthening not only the skin, but hair and nails as well! As I mentioned above, your skin loves healthy fats like omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce free radical damage and fight inflammation, which is great for balancing your skin. I suggest using uncooked oils to gain all of their health benefits, such as a high-quality, unrefined extra-virgin olive oil, chia seed oil, pumpkin seed oil or avocado oil. Drizzle it over your food or make a gorgeous salad dressing with any of the oils mentioned!

Apple cider vinegar can be applied on your skin or ingested to enjoy its beauty benefits.
