Admittedly, I am no chef extraordinaire. I have, however, lived on my own since my very early University years and therefore had to go ahead and figure out the whole cooking situation. Being conscious of my health, I didn't want to rely heavily on take-out or cafeteria food. Thus, through the years I've somewhat (read: very) haphazardly come up with a variety of super easy and relatively quick ways to eat healthy without being anything close to a culinary genius.
Benefits of Fermented Protein
As we know, breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day! Setting you up for your day ahead, it's crucial that one's breakfast is nutrient-dense. Being a creature of habit, I've eaten pretty much nothing but yogurt for breakfast for the last couple of years. My yogurt game was never anything particularly spectacular, merely a means to an end of early-morning hunger, until one fateful day Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Protein Powder came into my life. This formulation of protein is unique in a number of ways, including the following:
- Promotes overall digestive health and healthy gut bacteria
- Provides 20g of fermented dietary protein per serving
- Non allergenic and soy free
- Aids the gut in absorption of nutrients
- Removes harmful bacteria found in many foods
- Supports the immune system
- Is fermented in small batches by microbiologists, and is ensured to be of the most pristine quality and perfect level of fermentation for optimal health benefits.
- Is predigested and ready for your body to use - leaving you with zero post-breakfast bloat or an uncomfortable "full" feeling.
As a longtime vegetarian, I've used a lot of different protein powders over the years, but this has been my favorite by far. Fantastic taste aside, it leaves my digestive system feeling "happy" instead of overworked or bloated first thing in the AM. It really is a great way to start the day!
Fibre, Omega's, & Protein, Oh My!
A friend of mine gave me the idea of adding Genuine Health's Fermented Vegan Protein Powder to my yogurt and once I did, everything changed. It both upped the nutrition factor tenfold, helped to sustain me longer throughout the morning, and also gave my plain yogurt a fantastic lightly-sweetened Vanilla flavor (though it's also available in an unflavored formula). From there everything snowballed into a whole creative yogurt process. This once very-plain breakfast has blossomed into a protein, omega-3/omega-6 and fibre rich meal. Below is my (no longer) top secret recipe for the easiest breakfast that packs a serious nutritional punch.
3/4 Cup organic, non-fat, plain Greek yogurt
1/2 - 1 Scoop Genuine Health Fermented Vegan Protein Powder
1/4 cup of Simply Protein Crunch
1/2 Cup mixed berries
A drizzle of PEI Berries Pure Blueberries
A sprinkling of organic cinnamon
1 Tablespoon of Chia, Flax, or Hemp hearts (or combine all three!)
As you may have noticed, there's a few seemingly eclectic choices in there such as the Simply Choices Protein Nut & Fruit Bar. As an alternative to heavily-sweetened granola, I like to take 1/4 to 1/2 of a bar and crumble it over top of my finished product. It's a great pièce de résistance with its low-sugar, high fibre, and high protein content. If you want a hint of natural sweetness, a drizzle of Pure Blueberries is both delicious and increases the anti-oxidant factor.
Be sure to include Chia, Flax, or Hemp Hearts for natural sources of fibre, Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fats. If you're someone who feels rather blasé about breakfast or simply wants to try something new, I promise you will love this! You can feel good about the balance of proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates as a nutritious way to fuel your presumably hectic day. Oh and don't forget coffee. Always, coffee.
