Fenugreek seed is not only used as a culinary spice. It has been traditionally used in Southern Asia, specifically as part of the Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia, as an anti-diabetic, blood sugar-regulating, and women's hormone tonic herb. It promotes mild production and therefore is an excellent herb for breastfeeding women. Because it's a bitter, it is also effective as a digestive tonic, liver and gallbladder stimulant, and appetite stimulant. By encouraging liver function and proper metabolism of macronutrients and especially fats, it helps to lower blood levels of triglycerides and cholesterol.
