The Pineal Gland and the Third Eye

Simple gland or Jedi knight? The pineal gland can be the key to good health.

The pineal gland is situated at the center of the brain. This small gland is located between the two hemispheres close to the brain centers responsible for emotion, memories, smell and animalistic instincts such as sex drive. For centuries, the pineal gland was considered a third eye or a gateway to spiritual experiences because it releases a substance called dimethyltryptamine (DMT). It is a natural substance found in all living organisms —some more than others. But what is amazing is that it is found both in animals and plants. Why that is, or what its real function is, no one really knows but it reminds me of the microscopic midi-chlorians from Star Wars that create "the Force" in Jedi knights, as the story goes.

The pineal gland releases large quantities of DMT during birth and death. When ingested in large quantities from plant sources, the Amazonian plant extract Ayahuasca creates deeply hallucinogenic and mystical experiences that last only minutes but seem like hours to the person under its influence. The experience has been described as an entrance to another realm where one can encounter beings that act as spiritual guides. It is also said to reveal our purpose in the universe and the purpose of the universe itself, and to guide us to be the best possible beings we can be. The practice of ingesting Ayahuasca has been practiced for millennia by the shamans of the Amazonian rainforest as part of a religious ceremony to guide them in this life and beyond.

As we age, the pineal gland calcifies and hardens, potentially losing its ability to release this amazing substance. One possible contributing factor for such calcification may be the fluoride in our tap water. This fluoride is actually an industrial waste product called hydrofluorosilicic acid, and the Canadian Environmental Protection Agency regulates fluoride as an environmental pollutant and water contaminant. It makes you wonder why they still add it to our drinking water!  Recent research does not support the use of fluoride in tap water as an effective factor in the prevention of tooth decay.

Some believe that the calcification of the pineal gland is what makes some of us more rigid spiritually as we age. Children are often seen as more open to others and more imaginative in their thinking. Having an imaginary friend in childhood is a prime example.

Another thing to consider is that the pineal gland is the source of the sleeping hormone melatonin. This hormone induces and maintains deep sleep. Its release is usually stimulated by total darkness. As we age, sleeping problems are more common. Some can be attributed to anxiety and a stressful lifestyle. But perhaps another common cause is pineal calcification. CT scans of human adult brains support this theory. The vast majority of such images show the pineal gland calcified in middle age. This displays as a small white round structure on a dark background of uncalcified brain. (White on a CT scan indicates a calcified structure.)

But not all hope is lost. There may be a way to release the pineal gland from this rigidness and make it function again. This can potentially make us more spiritual, tranquil, in better equilibrium with our environment and more sensitive to our own being and that of others.

Avoid tap water: Drink clean bottled spring water or mineral water with a low calcium content.

Chant: Simply sit down on the ground and relax. Place the tip of your tongue between a small slit between your teeth and push out a deep breath making the noise “the”. Releasing the deep breath should take you at least 10 seconds or so. You should feel some tension in your jaw and cheeks. Repeat the process multiple times for 10 minutes every evening. What you are creating is a vibration that is meant to transmit itself to the pineal gland, releasing it from its tightening calcification. To me, as a scientist, it makes sense from a mechanical point of view. Vibrations, if strong enough, usually destabilize brittle rigid structures such as calcified structures. In theory, you are literally breaking apart the calcification that holds the pineal gland in its dormant stage and making it function again. This could release more melatonin and DMT, allowing you to sleep better and be more in tune spiritually with yourself, others and the universe as a whole.
