Spring Time Slim Down Secrets

Admittedly, I am not a doctor. Recently though, I admit that I diagnosed myself with a new disease. It’s a seasonal sickness that I’m calling Seasonal Surprise Disorder, and you may have it too! Does this sound familiar? Even though I’ve spent my whole life in a Canada where the weather moves in relatively predictable patterns, year after year I’m always surprised when the seasons change. When the sub-zero temperatures take over our lives during the winter it feels like the first time, every time. No matter what, I’m always shocked, appalled and totally unprepared, both physically and emotionally.

On the flip-side, it often feels like we go from Sorel boots to bootie shorts overnight. Yes, bikini season always tends to catch me off guard and off my game, especially when it comes to my waistline. Basically, I spend all winter eating my negative feelings about the weather, hidden under bulky sweaters and sweat pants, and then I spend all summer trying to undo the damage. Well, this year I’ve decided to get ahead of the curve: to try and get everything in-check before it’s time to check out the beach! Here are some natural weight-management tips just in time for spring!

Raspberry Ketones

For the last few years, the health industry has been buzzing about raspberry ketones, an aromatic compound found in the berries. Dr. Oz even featured it. How does it work? Ketones stimulate the production of a protein called adiponectin which helps to regulate our metabolism as well as help break down our fat stores in the body.

While the raspberry ketones work with the body’s metabolism, glucomannan manipulates our appetite. At its roots, glucomannan is a type of fiber that has been used for many years in Japan as a thickening agent. When it is consumed, it soaks up the water in the body and expands, reducing the absorption of carbs and cholesterol while also increasing and extending the feeling of fullness. (Talk about multitasking!) It then helps to clean out the intestines. In fact, the Japanese even gave glucomannan the nickname“the broom of the intestines.” ‘Nuff said.

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Often called the “universal antioxidant”, there are many benefits to taking ALA. Like most powerful antioxidants, it can help to reduce inflammation and repair free radical damage. But it is also known to help lose weight by enhancing our body’s ability to use food as energy. Because ALA is found in foods that are high in saturated fat and cholesterol like red meat and organ meat, taking it in supplement form is the best option for our health.

Save and Reboot with Detoxification

Sometimes I wish we could just press a reset button and start over. While the button itself doesn’t really exist, there is a way to reboot the bod in time for spring with a detox. Renew Life’s CleanseSmart Detox Kit is a 30-day cleanse the helps to refresh the body by eliminating toxins primarily in the liver and the colon. Among countless health benefits, it will help improve energy, digestion and reduce bloat, distention and water retention! All that and it doesn’t require strict diet? Sold!
